What I do

Officially, I'm a second-year molecular biology student at University of California, San Diego. Unofficially, I'm really a MAN, baby!

My Research Stuff

For the last year or so, I've been working in Dr. Milton Saier's laboratory creating both deletion mutants in E.coli and characterizing proteins whose functions have been predicted by computer analysis.

If you (for some unknown reason) are interested in seeing what kind of stuff my lab does, go ahead and click on the links below:

Right now, I'm in the process of creating deletion and overexpression mutants for two E. coli genes, YadQ and AgaC, purported to be a chloride transporter and a multi-drug resistance protein, respectively. I'm also performing the functional characterization of the YahN family of proteins, which are predicted to be involved in amino acid efflux.

Biographical Information

So, I guess this is where I spill my guts. Well, I'm 19 years old, originally from Stockton, CA, but I managed to escape that little patch of hell and make it down here to San Diego, where I'm now a second-year undergrad studying molecular biology. One of these days, I hope to get around to going to graduate school, and getting a Ph.D. For now, however, I'll just have to content myself with beer, parties, and women (sad, isn't it?).

Ok, a little history now. I'm the oldest of five kids, so I have two younger brothers and two younger sisters. I graduated from St. Mary's High School in Stockton. During the summers, I tend to moonlight as a lifeguard in Stockton (because I can't afford to live in La Jolla over the summer, which, I might add, sucks ass). After serving my country in the Great War, I returned home to start a small company that designed aircraft. I decided to name the company Boeing, after my pet schnauzer. Well, over time, the company grew, and so did I, netting some amazing profits. Okay, that's enough…it's getting stupid. So, I guess that's all about my life.

Personal Interests

Yes, believe it or not, I do have some personal interests. I very much enjoy soccer (although I haven't gotten a chance to play it in awhile), and I try to watch international games whenever I can. Unfortunately, US television isn't exactly the Mecca of soccer coverage, but it's getting better. I enjoy golfing occasionally. I am also fascinated by aircraft, both military and civilian, and I hope to get my pilot's license someday. I like SCUBA diving, and I'm probably going to get SCUBA certified over the summer ('cuz I ain't got anything else to do). I used to pole vault for the track team at my high school. Oh, and of course, I love the beach, but I don't know how to surf (maybe someday I'll take the time to learn).
